Do you want to know if there are bovine growth hormones in your milk?
Most people do want to know if what they eat and drink has drugs, hormones, or other unnatural additives, and most farmers want to provide this information about their products.
So why does the State of Ohio want to make it nearly impossible for any national dairy brands to let you know if their products are free from genetically engineered bovine growth hormone (rbGH or rbST)?
Widespread concerns by consumers and medical groups that drugged milk will increase cancer risk have pushed this hormone out of Wal-Mart and Starbucks milk, Dannon and Yoplait yogurt, and most dairy products. But a rule created by Ohio Governor Ted Strickland places so many labeling restrictions on products sold in his state, national brands may stop proclaiming their products as rbGH-free.
Organic and consumer groups have appealed the rule in court, and we need to make it clear to Governor Strickland that we want him to cancel this rule.
Tell Ohio Governor Strickland: cancel your rule interfering with hormone labeling and let consumers know what they're buying. Click here to send an email directly to Gov. Strickland and his office:

Developed by Monsanto and now sold by Eli Lilly, the hormone rbGH is designed to increase cows' milk production. Problem is, it significantly impacts the health of cows, and it increases a hormone in the milk that is linked to colon, breast and prostate cancers.
While banning rbGH is our ideal, until that happens, consumers should have a choice to choose milk that is free of this hormone. Right now we have the very real threat of not knowing if rbGH is even in our milk if this Ohio rule stands. We need to tell Governor Strickland that people have a right to know what's in their food.
Write to Governor Strickland now and ask him to rescind his rule. Tell him that consumers have a right to know what's in their food. Click here: http://www.responsibletechnology.org/GMFree/TakeAction/LettertoGovStrickland/
Countries around the world have completely banned rbGH from being used in cows as long ago as 1990. Canada, Australia, Japan, and the whole European Union all prevent rbGH from being used in their countries. The United States is more than a decade behind and now there's a chance that we might not even know when this drug is used in the milk we drink.
Consumers in the US, at the very least, have a right to look at a label and know if milk has rBGH hormones or not. The State of Ohio should not take away that right - but unless we act now, that will be the reality.
