The National Cancer Institute has found that women with certain risk factors can be more likely to develop ovarian cancer. Of course, just because woman may have one or more of these risk factors doesn’t mean that she will get ovarian cancer. The risk factors are: History of cancer in the family (self, mothers, sisters, daughters) especially if they had uterine cancer, breast cancer, rectal cancer and colon cancer. Most women are over the age of 55 when diagnosed with ovarian cancer Women who have never had a pregnancy Studies have suggested that women who take estrogen as hormone therapy by itself (estrogen without progesterone) for 10 or more years may have an increased risk of ovarian cancer.
